Work Units and Personnel
Administration

Ann Coutu
Robin Kress
Jill Sandersen
Joyce Williams
The Administrative staff of the CRC manages the non-medical operation of the Center. The Administrative Manager handles the Center's fiscal and grant management responsibilities.

Core Laboratory

Tim Garrett, Ph.D.
Eoin Quinlivan, Ph.D.
Tomy Mathew
Tim Palmer
Core Laboratories include Sample Processing (SP) Laboratory, Biomedical Mass Spectrometry (BMS) Laboratory and DNA Bank. The SP Lab processes, barcodes, provides short-term storage of samples, and performs routine laboratory analyses for glucose, lactate, Beta-HCG and urinalysis. The DNA bank stores plasma and DNA from patients and is a unique repository for genetic investigations. BMS Lab provides method development, structure determination and quantitation of molecules of biological interest including small molecules, peptides and proteins. For small molecules and biologically active peptides, tandem mass spectrometry is used, and for proteomics research, 2D gels, 2D HPLC and nanospray LC-MS are utilized. We also have two GC-MS instruments for small molecule determinations.

Informatics Core
& Biostatistics

Jonathan Shuster, Ph.D.
Douglas Theriaque, M.S.
Cindy Wang, M.S.
Brad Alderman
The Biostatistician and Data Services Manager staff the computing resources of the CRC Informatics Core/Data Services Lab assist CRC researchers in designing protocols, collecting and managing data, analyzing data using appropriate statistical methods and interpreting and presenting those data and analyses in terms linked to the scientific goals of the studies conducted at the CRC.

Metabolic Research Unit

Meena N. Shankar, MS, RD
Betty Poole
LaSheaka Gatson
Amanda Slater
A Research Dietitian and dietary staff are responsible for the nutritional needs of all patients on the Center. They specialize in the development and implementation of strict research diets and monitor patient compliance. This requires the Research Dietitian to work closely with patients to ensure they understand the importance of their diets in relation to the objectives of the research study in which they participate.

Nursing

Teresa DAngelo
Trilla Bass
Ann Aldridge
Ann Cothran
Betsy Potocik
Charlie Church
Dottie Nichols
Emma Labrador
Gloria Cole
Janet King
Joan Collins
Laurel Blanch
Pam Connolly
Pat Hendrix
Walter Hyer
The Nursing Supervisor has both administrative and clinical responsibilities. The nursing staff is highly trained in all aspects of clinical research and is assigned exclusively to the CRC. CRC staff nurses are "research" nurses in addition to carrying out their regular standard nursing duties. Nursing education is an ongoing process, with the investigators and research fellows giving lectures relating to their research protocols on the Center.

Program Direction

Craig Tisher, MD
Peter W. Stacpoole, MD, Ph.D.
Mark Brantly, MD
Desmond Schatz, MD
Arun Srivastava, PhD
N. Lawrence Edwards, MD
As principal investigator, the Dean of the College of Medicine has the ultimate responsibility for administration and operation of the Center. The Program Director, Associate Director and Assistant Director are also responsible for direction of the CRC and supervise the day-to-day operation of the unit. They also supervise the other professional staff of the Center.

Research Subject Advocate

H. Robert Kolb RN, CCRC
The research Subject Advocate(RSA) promotes the conduct of the highest quality human research in an ethical, safe and fully informed environment; pursuing the reduction of risk and enhancement of health and safety of the participants; safeguarding the reliability of research outcomes through education, participant advocacy, consultation, recommendation, policy making, oversight and enforcement.
